Considered by many as one of the greatest tennis matches ever, the 2008 Wimbledon Gentlemen’s Final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will be aired in its entirety Sunday, Aug. 24, from 3 - 8 p.m. ET on ESPN Classic. ESPN’s Dick Enberg and Patrick McEnroe were courtside at The All England Club’s famed Centre Court to call the action. Federer, the five-time defending Wimbledon champ, came back from two sets down before falling 6–4, 6–4, 6–7(5), 6–7(8), 9–7 as Nadal won his first Wimbledon title. The rain-delayed match ended in near darkness after 4 hours, 48 minutes of play. With the win, Nadal became the first male to win both the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year since Bjorn Borg in 1980. |
